We're Here to Answer Your Burning Questions About Oil Day
Whether you’re a newbie or you can identify a strain by smell alone, you might not know what 710 is all about. Well, here’s the not-so-big secret: 710 is a holiday that celebrates concentrated cannabis (aka oils) on July 10th. July 10th is 7/10. And if you flip the date “710” upside down and backwards, it looks like the word “OIL.” Think of it as a mini 420, but honoring all of the oil-based cannabis we love. 710 is also referred to as “OIL DAY” or “DAB DAY” depending on who you’re hanging with and what’s on the menu for the afternoon. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s answer some other commonly asked questions about Oil Day.
Okay, but what is oil exactly?
Oil is a concentrate. Concentrates are highly potent, flavorful cannabis products that come in a variety of textures, formats, and potencies. They’re produced through innovative extraction processes to create the maximum amount of cannabinoids and terpenes, which are responsible for the aroma, flavor, and potential psychoactive and therapeutic effects of cannabis. Oils don’t have to be oily, though. Budder, Vape, Wax, Shatter, Crumble, and Diamonds are oils colloquially.
What makes oil worth celebrating?
If you’re happy with the power of flower, no problem. But if you’re concentrate-curious, here are a few common reasons why you might want to dabble with dabs and various vapes.
Maximum potency
Concentrates are concentrated cannabis, which means you’ll experience a higher potency of cannabinoids and more terpenes vs. other products.
Small but mighty
Due to their concentrated nature, a little goes a long way. Even a small amount is significantly more potent than flower. For newbies, we recommend following the “start low, go slow” method.
Finest of flavor
Rich in tasty terpenes, concentrates carry the delicious flavor and aroma of the source plant.
Fast-acting
The onset of effects is almost immediate due to the body's easy absorption of the activated high concentration of compounds like cannabinoids and terpenes.
Premium purity
Our rigorous testing standards, pristine facilities, and innovative extraction processes all help ensure the maximum amount of residual solvents and impurities are removed for a purely potent and safe product.
We're forcasting a cloudy 7/10. Here's how you can take part:
DAB RIGS - There are traditional glass dab rigs and electric dab rigs. Traditional dab rigs are typically a water pipe featuring a “nail” or “banger,” which is heated to vaporize the concentrate. Vapor then flows down into the rig and through the water, cooling and filtering it before inhalation. Electric dab rigs, such as Puffco, don’t require nails or torches, and you can select the heat temperature you want for perfect pulls.
DAB PENS - Portable dab pens have the benefits of traditional dabbing with the convenience of portability. The concentrate goes into a chamber on your portable dab pen/vaporizer, after which it’s heated and vaporized for consumption.
VAPE PENS - Vape pens allow for an easy and convenient way for people to consume cannabis concentrates. Vape pens use hardware to enable vaporization of the oil, which is inhaled via a mouthpiece. Vape pens can be filled with a variety of concentrate types, from distillate to live resin to rosin.
ADD IT TO FLOWER - Many concentrates can be added right to your favorite flower, such as Crumble, Bubble Hash, Wax, or Diamonds. This can be a great option if you don’t have the equipment to dab, or just want an added kick of potency. Try adding throughout a joint, topping your bowl, or packing on your bong.
A guide for dabbling in dabs
While dabbing does mean that you can enjoy (much) higher percentages of cannabinoids—like THC—it doesn’t equate to recklessness like the stigmas suggest. A fast-acting and highly potent dose means swift, effective relief for patients who need it and an especially elevated experience for those who recreate responsibly.
Concentrates are a great option for consumers who may have a high tolerance or have built up a tolerance from consuming other products like flower. The potency of concentrates allows consumers to experience effects that are more intense than consuming flower or lower-potency products. A little goes a long way.
Make sure you have the right tool for the job
Be sure to consider your preferred consumption method based on the hardware you have available to you to make sure you purchase the proper concentrate consistency for optimal intake, effects, and experiences. For the most optimal dabbing experience, we recommend using a dab rig. If just starting to dabble or looking for a more discreet option, dab pens or vapes can be a great choice.
Sativa and indica rules apply
Each of our concentrates is strain-specific with different terpene and cannabinoid profiles that produce unique flavors, aromas, and effects. If you have certain strains you like or effects you’re seeking, be sure to ask your budtender for guidance on which concentrate will reflect that experience.
Live resin or cured?
“Live” concentrates are made from freshly harvested cannabis plants, whereas “cured” concentrates are made from plants that have undergone the drying and curing process.
For “live” concentrates, live plants are flash-frozen to best preserve the good stuff—cannabinoids and terpenes. Retaining these compounds allows for the full effect and flavor of the original cultivar to shine through in the concentrate.
“Cured” concentrates are made from cured flower, meaning the flower has been harvested and dried before the extraction process begins. Curing the flower removes the majority of the natural moisture in the plant, giving the plant time to mature and develop potency and flavor, making for a smooth and enjoyable experience, but with less terpene flavor than “live” concentrates. Make sure it’s available
Different states have different laws regarding concentrates. So, before you make the trek to the store in search of sauce, check out what’s available to you on our site https://curaleaf.com/locations or at your local dispensary.
Always go legit
It’s important to get your oil from a legal source. It ensures that the quality is consistent, pure, and potent. Plus, it’s made safely. Backyard oil extraction has led to many serious disasters. Grassroots, for example, has an expert lab team, top-of-the-line facilities, and innovative processes that allow them to hold their concentrates to the highest of standards.
Store it right for quality hits
Proper storage is key to preserving both the quality of the concentrate and your consumption experience. Make sure to store them upright in a cool, dark, airtight container that avoids heat and moisture as best as possible, as environmental components can cause the active compounds in the product to break down over time.
Have a happy flippin' 710!
