While you may be mourning the “lost” celebration of 420 due to social distancing, we’re here to remind you that celebrations come in many shapes and sizes. This 420 could be your best yet, especially if you focus inward.
Rarely do we make enough time for self-care. We know it’s important; essential, even. Still, when was the last time you gave yourself some undivided attention? This 420, try something different. Tap into your uncharted potentials. Replace “I can’t” with “I’ll try it.” Let your inhibitions go... and see where a stay-home wellness retreat might lead.
Excited? So are we. Now, let’s explore some IDEAS to bring your 420 to life, solo style.
Prep ahead
Don’t wake up on 4/20 wondering where you’ll get your cannabis. Order ahead online and do it early to avoid lines and long waits. We’ve implemented curbside pickup at our dispensaries to keep your shopping experience safe and efficient. Check curaleaf.com/coronavirus-updates for specifics in your home state.
Don’t forget to think about mocktails, smoothies, and other healthy snacks. Infuse a large pitcher of water with fresh fruit or herbs. It’s 4/20; even your water should be special! IF you’re planning to hold a virtual session with a few friends, consider pre-planning to coordinate your eats, your drinks and—of course—your cannabis. (More on that in a bit!)
Make it sacred
Time for some healthy ambiance. String up the holiday lights. Make a pillow fort on your couch. Use natural elements (potted plants, rocks, crystals, shells...) to create a small altar. Modifying your medication space is just one way to mark the occasion. If the great outdoors is accessible and allows for proper distancing, take a pre-medication walk or hike to move your body and clear your mind. Speaking of that...
Think on it
If you’re inclined to focus on your head, headspace.com is a great (free) meditation app. Or try one of Tara Brach’s guided meditations. And if you’ve been wanting to check out the Wim Hof method (you know, the Dutchman that sits on ice?), it’s your lucky day. He’s offering a special discount during the pandemic.
Nama-Stay ‘Om, please!
Couldn’t resist. But seriously, what better way to center your mind and body at home than through a virtual yoga session. And we’ve got JUST the one.
Have you met Jessamyn Stanley? Author of Every Body Yoga, Jessamyn takes the practice away from things like having perfect balance or turning oneself into a pretzel, and towards things like “I want to love myself” and “I want to energize my spirit.” Seriously, those are actual sequences in her teachings.
For 420, we’re sponsoring a special live class with Jessamyn. She’s got two sessions for you: 10 am EST & 6 pm EST. Visit her instagram to stay in the loop on this awesome opportunity!
If the timing doesn’t work out, or you just want to get familiar with Jessamyn and her style, try her beginning track here in her virtual studio: The Underbelly. If you love it (and you will), you can sign up for a free trial, which works via desktop OR app. A membership is $9.95 a month—a steal.
Want options? We’re fans of Yoga with Minelli and Cannakula. Bonus: both offer virtual courses that specifically incorporate cannabis.
Awake the muses
Because this year’s 420 is void of social distraction, it’s an excellent time to lose yourself in meditative creation. Painting, beading, colored pencil sketching... or perhaps a new-to-you medium via an online art class. Prefer to keep it simple? Enjoy an adult coloring book page. If you don’t have a book handy, you can find lots of images here.
Find your groove
Music goes without explanation. Yet if you’re looking for some visual stimulation to accompany the audio, on 4/20 nugs.tv will be holding the Highstream Digital Festival, which not only features amazing musical artists, but also will benefit coronavirus related charities. Visit the link to sign up for a reminder. As for pre or post 420...
Nugs.tv also has lots of recorded webcasts available; it’s a fun way to relive a concert you were at—or catch up on one you wish you hadn’t missed.
On 4/10, YouTube released a new documentary about Coachella that we can’t wait to sink into. It’s available on YouTube Premium. (There’s a free month trial if you’re not subscribed.)
On 4/18, don’t miss Together at Home, a concert series to support frontline healthcare workers and the World Health Organization.
We've also compiled a 420 at Home playlist on Spotify to mark the 2020 occasion. Pop it on for some background as you prep for the day.
Inhale, exhale...
Alternatives to inhalation have become increasingly popular, with many people looking to avoid smoking as a respiratory precaution. We’re fortunate that cannabis comes in many forms! For 420, explore a new delivery method like gummies, capsules or even a tincture. If you have flower at home, perhaps it’s time to decarboxylate it and make your own infused cannabutter.
The best thing about cannabutter is its versatility. You can use it in elaborate dishes, or on something as simple as toast. Here are some of our favorite “everyday” uses for cannabutter to get you inspired!
- Stir it into a hot bowl of mac n’ cheese
- Slather it on homestyle pancakes
- Use it in place of regular butter for grilled cheese sandwich. This one is next level.
- Use it in your favorite cookie or brownie recipe. Can’t choose? Neither could we.
OR... try this celebratory Buttered Cocoa Mug Cake for one. It comes together in under 10 minutes. (Yes, wellness comes in cake-form, too.)
What you’ll need:
- 4 T all-purpose flour
- 2 T unsweetened cocoa
- 1/4 t baking soda
- 1/8 t fine sea salt
- 1 T granulated sugar
- 1 T dark brown sugar, + 1 t, reserved
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 T extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 T water
- 1 t cider vinegar or white vinegar
- 1 T cannabutter
What to do:
- Spray a large (12 ounce) microwave-safe ceramic mug with cooking spray. Combine all ingredients in the mug. Whisk with a small whisk or a fork until well mixed with no lumps.
- Microwave for 60-90 seconds or until fully cooked depending on your microwave. Do not overcook or it’ll be dry.
- Melt your cannabutter and combine with reserved brown sugar to create a sweet “glaze.” Spread atop the cake.
- Allow the mug to cool for 3-5 minutes before digging in.
Welcome a little (virtual) company
