In light of recent news regarding vaping, Curaleaf would like to state our continued commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards for consumer safety and transparency. To date, Curaleaf has not received any reports from our patients or customers regarding any adverse effects from vaping products manufactured by Curaleaf or UKU. We understand, though, that there have been multiple reports across the country of individuals developing acute lung symptoms, including a few cases of death, after vaping tobacco and cannabis products that may have contained dilutive agents that are not approved ingredients. Federal and state health agencies continue to investigate this matter and Curaleaf will continue to monitor those investigations closely.
Until the CDC and FDA determine the cause of the reported acute lung illnesses under investigation in people who have vaped tobacco and cannabis products, the FDA has issued the following guidance, as of September 6, 2019:
"Because consumers cannot be sure whether any THC vaping products may contain Vitamin E acetate, consumers are urged to avoid buying vaping products on the street, and to refrain from using THC oil or modifying/adding any substances to products purchased in stores. Additionally, no youth should be using any vaping product, regardless of the substance."
Vitamin E acetate, an unapproved additive in vaping products, has been widely reported as a potential cause of these symptoms. To be clear, Curaleaf and UKU vapable products do not contain Vitamin E acetate or any other Vitamin E derivative. Curaleaf maintains strict compliance with state guidelines.
